As my avatar indicates, I'm always up for Bregman speculation.

More importantly, do you think Trump will become champion again?

This year, Trump has reached the The Masters’ quarter finals and tomorrow he takes on Ding Junhui. I am, of course, talking about Judd Trump (a real World Champion, albeit six years ago) and The Masters snooker tournament.

13 Ds in Trump districts, just 3 Rs in Harris districts. Total of 16 crossover districts ties 2020 for fewest in modern history.

Well that split really sucks . . . . . ):

I would fully support Deb Haaland for Governor of New Mexico.

Sen. Martin Heinrich needs to stay put in the Senate and not alienate the voters who just reelected him to another 6 year term until 2030. If he genuinely wanted to be Governor, he should have retired in 2024 and let congresswoman Melanie Stansbury advance to the Senate seat or something!! 💙🇺🇲

Agreed 100 per cent. It's a bad look for him, and a bad look for the Democratic Party in New Mexico. I just hope the primary next year isn't too nasty.

Nella Domenici's main attack against him was the very possibility of him considering a run for Governor so soon. Would be pretty bad if voters had buyer's remorse as a result!! 😢

Haaland would make a terrific Governor

Bernie Sanders has come a long way since finishing with 1% of the vote in the race for governor of Vermont. He became mayor of Burlington and then a member of Congress. He just won reelection to his fourth term in the Senate with 63% of the vote. And though being a Lebanese citizen and a Maronite Christian are requisite for the position, a member of parliament cast his vote for Sanders to be president of Lebanon.

As expected, Governor DeSantis announces he will appoint Ashley Moody, Florida’s attorney general, to replace Marco Rubio in the Senate.

Expand full comment

Who will replace Moody as attorney general? Does a Democrat stand a chance when Senator Moody is up for reelection in 2026 (and, because of term limits, there is an open race for governor)?

It’s an edge case seat, but why not. Invest everywhere

We took out appointed Sen Kelly Loefller in GA but she was flawed and GA is very different than FL

It's expected DeSantis will name is Chief of Staff, James Uthmeier who will almost certainly run for a full term with his full backing

If Trump is a complete disaster and prices don't drop and unemployment goes high and insurance companies continue to vacate the state and hurricanes continue to pound the state and interest rates rise instead of fall; then, MAYBE our side has a punchers chance; maybe

It's been an open secret here; she's actually about the best our side could hope for(but she will be much more popular than Scott; thus, very difficult to dislodge; imo she's much better as a politician than Bondi, and smarter)

There are reports that Trump is pushing Governor Mike DeWine to appoint Vivek Ramaswamy to J.D. Vance's Senate seat. That might at least cripple the insidious DOGE.

Expand full comment

If that happens, and Elon gets as bored with government “work” as I suspect he does, DOGE probably doesn’t make it to Memorial Day

Expand full comment

My instincts tell me that DeWine will likely exercise his own independent judgement and appoint someone else besides Ramaswamy to the Senate seat.

Expand full comment

Governor DeWine, be a patriot – please appoint Sherrod Brown!

Expand full comment

Well, maybe. Vivek clearly has ambitions beyond his sinecure/exile to DOGE. If DeWine taps Husted, then I’d imagine Vivek guns for Ohio Governor

Pity the state if that’s the case

Expand full comment

In a stars align right sense I can see Vivek fumbling that race in a strong Dem year if Ohio Dems can find someone credible to run.

Expand full comment

DeWine doesn't owe Trump anything and he's term-limited, so he doesn't have to worry about a primary challenge.

Expand full comment

All true but DeWine might want to make sure that his own son's future is secure

Expand full comment

DOGE is a paper tiger anyway. It has no actual structure. Vivek would be an AWFUL Senator and I really hope this doesn't happen.

Expand full comment

If DOGE really wanted to reduce government waste and reduce federal expenditures, they would tackle the military budget. But there’s no way Vivek & Elon or the Trump Administration would dare do that.

He should appoint Mike Turner.

Little-known Semocratic NYS Senator James Skoufis has dropped his bid for DNC Chair and thrown in with MN Dem Chair Ken Martin.

Ken Martin has now amassed an endorsement list including several entire state Delegations, and includes more than 50 state chairs and vice chairs.

Since being removed from his top Intelligence seat by Trump via Johnson, Mike Turner has missed all votes on the House floor.

Expand full comment

Not likely, of course, but I would love to see Mike Turner declare himself an Independent and caucus with the House Democrats.

He just rocketed up my retirement watch

An early retirement with resignation would be even better.

might be a real thing Turner just got removed from the committee completely https://x.com/jamiedupree/status/1879982755750232151

Now we’re talking!

Expand full comment

If he's angry enough to resign, I'd rather he stick around for a full term. Poor attendance and being less likely to toe the line for tough votes is worth more to us than a few months of the seat being empty followed by a replacement that is probably a republican even in an environment that starts to tilt towards us.

Can't really gauge much from these numbers when both are below 45 and during Trump's honeymoon period.

Spanberger is further ahead now of where Ralph Northam was eight years ago. So far, so good. As I said on a previous post though, Spanberger will need to get a straight answer on the so called "right to work" question.

Expand full comment

I feel that this is our race to lose; unless Spanberger falls completely flat on the trail(her proven track record in an extremely tough district would argue otherwise); then she wins relatively easily

Ashley Moody will be a formidable candidate when/if she runs for the seat on her own

Expand full comment

She'll be in that seat until she wants to leave most likely. None of the baggage that Scott has

Or unless Florida's politics change for the better. The realist in me says that's not happening anytime soon.

Meanwhile, over at The Contrarian, co-founded by Jennifer Rubin, the eminent satirist Andy Borowitz is leading a contest to create a new slogan for The Washington Post. Imho, this suggestion from a reader is the clear winner:

"We’ll Leave the Gaslight On."

(Obsolete slogan: "Democracy Dies in Darkness"
