Would Sherrod Brown have strong prospects if he ran for Governor of Ohio, perhaps against Vivek Ramaswamy? Yes, my preference is to have Brown back in the Senate, ASAP, but I am curious.

He’d be a strong (if uphill) prospect for either but I’d really rather have him jump in for Senate, where he’d be more impactful

I think Senate is most important

Vivek could be the better opponent but the wrong race for Dems nationally. He basically said Americans are lazy and that we suck the other week. A tech bro candidacy and policy platform in OH seems like a bad idea.

A Mercedes dealership owner seemed like a bad fit for Ohio as well yet here we are. Nothing seems to matter anymore other than the letter next to your name.

So thankful I am with a nonprofit in Northern Virginia and not with the Feds.

With the number of statewide GOP officials running for governor of Ohio it seems there is a great opportunity for Democrats in the state to make progress in winning these posts. With the coming backlash against Trump and his appointees and policies this may be the best prospects for a Democratic comeback in the Buckeye State in decades. This is also the time for a strong voting rights measure to be put on the ballot by citizen initiative!

And the last time Dems won the Ohio governorship it was in a backlash against Bush, that also put Sherrod Brown in the Senate. The last time before 2006 that a Dem won OH-Gov was 1986, and 1992 for OH-Sen.

We've done better there with citizen initiatives, including two votes for abortion rights in 2023 that were needed due to the GOP trying to change the rules. Ironically, despite pulling out all the stops to try and defeat it, the abortion amendment may have improved Republicans' prospects in state level races by largely removing (at least for now) one of their leading liabilities as an issue.

Honestly think it was in very poor taste for the DNC to send out a fundraising blast to supporters this morning. I get it you're trying to capitalize on people's fears to get them to donate but it just rubs me the wrong way and indicates that they have learned absolutely nothing.

Expand full comment

they send something every single day(so do the Republicans); I get them all

Maybe I'm lucky, I haven't gotten a fundraising text at all for several days now. With the Republicans it's all a grift so that's understandable.

Expand full comment

I haven't either in a long time, and I don't miss them.

Today was as good a day as any to send a fundraising blast IMO, but I and many others have gotten tired of them in general (especially the doomy ones.) Whoever next leads the DNC needs to engage supporters in ways that don't seem to view us simply as ATMs.

won't ever happen

Maybe I am luckier. I never received any fundraising text or email during this entire election cycle. Perhaps because I refuse to give out my email address or cell phone number.

At this point, I'm almost completely convinced that John Fetterman is going to switch parties at some point in the next two years. He was recently photographed giving a thumbs-up gesture with the lectern thief from the January 6 coup attempt.

Who would be our best candidates for PA-Sen if Fetterman switches parties?

I doubt he knew who that guy was, he looks so plain. Please don't jump to conclusions.

Fetterman’s response to the concerns is pretty trademark of his blunt and straight shooter kind of personality.

That said, the article did mention Fetterman has been working to try to get Democrats less freaked out about Trump for everything. Doesn’t mean he will give Trump a pass period but he also is aware Senator Bob Casey lost re-election. This complicated things a bit for Democrats who want to win in PA in this political environment.

Also, I’ve said this before in another thread:

Fetterman just doesn’t compare to Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. He was a reliable vote for the Democratic Party agenda and still is. That is in NO danger of being threaten right now.

Expand full comment

Well we're in the find out stage with Fetterman, if he's starts voting for some of the bullshit we'll know he's gone SInema

Expand full comment

No, even if Fetterman votes for bills that Democrats typically don't vote for, that still doesn't mean he's gone Sinema.

Sinema was who she was in the Senate because of her tendency to become a pain for the Democratic Party in enacting its agenda in the razor-thin majority it had during President Biden's years as POTUS. It's because she halted progress.
