Historically and in certain quarters, coaches ordered their athletes to abstain from sex and wanking before sporting events, in the belief that this would make their performance more energetic.
That said, it seems that Dayton Moore’s concerns arise from more than a passing familiarity with pornography. I wonder whether he has Mike Johnson’s favorite app, Covenant Eyes, installed on his cell phone?
Judge Ho orders Eric Adams & DOJ officials to show up in court tomorrow to explain the dismissal of the bribery charges.
“The parties shall be prepared to address, inter alia, the reasons for the Government's motion, the scope and effect of Mayor Adams's "consent” …”
Should be an interesting hearing. Meanwhile:
In a new statement tonight, Governor Kathy Hochul suggests she is seriously considering removing Mayor Eric Adams over the alleged “quid pro quo” with the Trump administration to drop charges against him:
“In the 235 years of New York State history, these powers have never been utilized to remove a duly-elected mayor… That said, the alleged conduct at City Hall that has been reported over the past two weeks is troubling and cannot be ignored. Tomorrow, I have asked key leaders to meet me at my Manhattan office for a conversation about the path forward.”
Was just coming to note this myself - the fact that this has already escalated to where somebody as cautious and conservative as Hochul is openly admitting she’s mulling removal is pretty remarkable
The thing that will make it easier for her to pull the trigger and remove him is more resignations from his staff. She has to contend with blowback from AA's in the city and the more untenable his position becomes, the easier it is to remove him.
I know, but they still wouldn't be too happy by someone being quick to chuck him out, just because there is another AA in the pipeline. The replacement is no great shakes either. Man, NYC...
Let's not pretend though that Adams being African American will automatically guarantee him support from the African American community. If simply being African American were enough Al Sharpton would have dominated African Americans in the 2004 Democratic Presidential Primary the way Jesse Jackson did in the 1984 and 1988 primaries and Artur Davis would have won the 2010 Democratic nomination for Governor of Alabama.
Jesse Jackson by contrast to Al Sharpton ran a more robust presidential campaign.
Sharpton to my understanding mainly ran in 2004 to raise awareness about issues facing the black community that haven’t been addressed. He even talked about reparations back then.
Proud Boys, grifters, perverts, drunks, techno-feudalists, "gypsies, tramps and thieves." Where the hell do we get these jokers from? Wes Craven, Quentin Tarantino or the departed David Lynch couldn't conjure up a more depraved assemblage of misfits!
My wife tells me that the Oath Keepers, or its precursor, started out simply as a group of men embracing their responsibility as progenitors, promising to show up as fathers and to pay child support. Any truth to this?
If so, it would be pretty ironic considering how Stewart Rhodes neglected and abused his six own children – with the eldest, Dakota Adams, issuing dire public warnings against the father who he has disavowed.
As I recall (which isn't much) there was always a strong suggestion of right-wing religiosity and politics to the oath keepers. Also, adults don't need to promise to do those things, they just do them.
Rhodes' history in the legal world is also shady. Somehow he got his JD at Yale but ended up trying to act like he was an attorney in states like Arizona where he had no license to practice in them.
He was given multiple opportunities to address these issues but went MIA and didn't show up when summoned. He was disbarred from the Montana Supreme Court due to not addressing bar grievances filed against him in Arizona.
In 2011, members of the Oath Keepers went to the small town Quartzsite, Arizona to support protesters who were against the town's then-Chief of Police and had been arrested. Led by Rhodes, the militia group gathered to hold the “Quartzsite Liberty Rally.” The two arrested protesters were Michael Roth and Jennifer Jones.
In May of 2012, the Arizona Supreme Court fined Rhodes $600 for acting as the attorney for Roth and Jones when he wasn’t licensed to practice law in Arizona.
Rhodes continued to represent Roth and Jones in Arizona even after the reprimand, and continued to file federal lawsuits on their behalf.
On April 15, 2014, he failed to appear by telephone for a status conference for a case with Jones. At the time, Rhodes was at the Cliven Bundy standoff with the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Nevada. Oath Keepers were there supporting Bundy who had not been paying grazing fees on federal land.
Disbarment by the Montana Supreme Court
On April 28, 2014, U.S. District Court Judge David Campbell of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona filed an ethics complaint against Rhodes for appearing in court without a license to do so. On May 12, 2014, Roth lodged a complaint against Rhodes, stating that he had provided incompetent representation and had abandoned Roth in his civil suit in federal court. Rhodes did not respond to either complaint.
On July 30, 2014, the Montana Commission on Practice (COP) told Rhodes to personally appear before the COP on October 16, 2014, in Kalispell to address the complaints. He did not show up to the meeting.
The matter was then raised before the Montana Adjudicatory Panel of the Commission on Practice. On October 8, 2015, a hearing was held in Butte to address the complaint. Rhodes was told to appear before the commission to answer the grievances in person, but he again did not show up.
On Dec. 8, 2015, the Montana Supreme Court officially disbarred Rhodes from practicing law for conduct violating the Montana Rules of Professional Conduct.
So, Andy Barr is accused of being an ally of "woke Wall Street banks"? Because we all know the Club for Growth prefers tone-deaf and catatonic Wall Street bankers. Sigh!
The large field of candidates for mayor of San Antonio can be explained in part by a change in the city charter in 2024 that made the term of office four years instead of two years. John Courage initially dropped out because he said that four years was too long at his age, but he got back in because, he said, he was suspicious of outside money backing other candidates.
It always amazes me when people run for offices they have no chance of winning. Sometimes they are just delusional and think they will be elected. For others it is just a grift, a chance to make money and raise their profile with the public while feeding their ego. Then you have people who run to support their party and increase voter turnout, which might help in more winnable races on the ballot.
It is not entirely clear which category (or combination of categories) that Riverside Co. Sheriff Chad Bianco falls into. One thing that is clear is that he is not the next Governor of the Golden State. If he is the only major GOP candidate he might make it into the runoff and then lose the general election to Kamala, Eleni, Betty, Katie, or some other dude or dudess. If I were a betting man I would say the next CA-Gov will be a Democratic woman. Let's see who actually files to run. If there is a more moderate Repub or indie Bianco could be shut out of the runoff. It is still early.
The last truly credible Republican Gubernatorial Candidate was Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, he ended up working with Democrats a lot and even appointed one of Gray Davis’ own cabinet secretaries as his Chief of Staff.
Meg Whitman - Lost to Jerry Brown in 2010 by nearly 13% points
Neel Kashkari - Lost to Jerry Brown in 2014 by almost 20% points.
John Cox - Lost to Gavin Newsom in 2018 by almost 24% points.
Brian Dahle - Lost to Gavin Newsom in 2022 by 18% points after Newsom beater the 2022 recall election.
But with Trump, Musk and DOGE influencing things these days, the tide will for sure turn against the CA GOP in the gubernatorial race. Newsom being termed out as Governor won’t exactly work to the GOP’s advantage in the way they want it to.
I don't know what kind of campaign Kashkari ran in 2014 but I've always found him to be an eloquent Federal Reserve Bank emissary on the Sunday morning shows.
His campaign was if nothing else interesting, though of course doomed. At one point he spent several nights living in the streets to try to show he understood homeless issues
He’s certainly found his niche within the Federal Reserve system
Regarding the homeless issues, Kashkari did something similar as what Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams did when he was in office (before he unseated Rep. Mia Love in the 2018 UT-04 Congressional Race). It's actually a smart move to get to understand what's going on in the outside as opposed to assuming there's always one solution that fits things best for the homeless.
That said, Kashkari has had the fortunate opportunity of not having served in elected office. On the other hand, he's far more moderate of a Republican than most in the GOP these days. I don't think he exactly desires a political career.
The first piece of advice he got was “Don’t take off your shoes.” The second, “Don’t go to the bathroom after dark.”
Though Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams heeded both, it didn’t make him feel any less vulnerable. There was little that could as he settled in for a night at the downtown Road Home homeless shelter.
When he climbed into bed — the top of a three-person bunk— with his sneakers still tightly laced to fend off would-be thieves, arguments echoed off the walls. One man had passed out on another’s cot, and McAdams heard the thud of a head smacking the cement floor when the sleeping occupant was yanked off the mattress.
He saw signs of drug use nearby. He wouldn’t say whether it was heroin needles or bags of spice. Both are popular in the blocks surrounding the shelter in Salt Lake City’s Rio Grande district.
It’s not like McAdams didn’t know it would be bad. He’d held news conferences about the so-called crisis in the area. He’d visited the grim neighborhood before. He’d read about the police officers assaulted and the drug dealers hiding out and the homeless people unable to access welfare services.
Experiencing it firsthand was different.
“That was shocking to me.”
McAdams’ stay at The Road Home — what he describes as a fact-finding mission — was part of three days and two nights he spent posing as a homeless person to gather information before recommending a new shelter location. Seeking a more personal perspective, he felt, could better guide future services and plans lacking in the current model.
Yes, you are correct. Neel Kashkari as Federal Reserve in MN Chairman is one of the most intelligent members of the Fed. He’s echoed plenty of what Elizabeth Warren has argued in terms of breaking up big banks and has shown he’s well-read on economic issues.
As for Kashkari’s gubernatorial campaign in CA back in 2014, he had decent views of social issues and was otherwise a conservative on economic issues. However, I don’t recall he was divisive and actually ran by contrast to all of the other GOP gubernatorial candidates after him a more civil campaign about the issues. He wasn’t right wing but he wasn’t exactly a traditional moderate Republican. Perhaps moderate conservative w/a bit of libertarian leanings.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Kashkari would be considered as Federal Reserve Chairman if a Democrat is selected as POTUS after Trump and has the opportunity to nominate a chair.
If Bernie Sanders were POTUS, I could have definitely seen either one of those situations happening. Perhaps with Elizabeth Warren as well if she were POTUS.
Any Democratic POTUS from Clinton to Obama to Biden has always tried to nominate a Federal Reserve Chairman who would satisfied both Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
(with the exception of President Clinton as he renominated Alan Greenspan as Fed Chair, which he served in from 1987-2006)
I was here. There wasn't much of a campaign, unlike in 2010. Brown was popular and no one was going to come close to him. Kashkari did his job, which was to limit the downballot damage.
Lindy Li, who was DNC Mid-Atlantic Chair until leaving the party altogether after the 2024 elections, admitted to not voting for a presidential candidate in 2024 despite previously claiming to have voted early for Harris in 2024.
I knew Lindy Li in high school. Total and complete fraud then, as she is now. She was always desperate for attention at whatever cost. Didn't support her congressional run or her involvement in Democratic politics from the get-go. I texted a Republican friend who works on the Hill who also knew Lindy Li growing up, and told her "good riddance--you can have her!" To say the least, she was not enthused about her party switch.
Her and Tulsi Gabbard, plus Cornel West who isn't the same thing but adjacent... It feels like we have a problem with giving prominent positions at the DNC to future grifters over the past few cycles. To me this is different than typical party switchers. There's no real standard point of ideological shift to justify it in the way that explains someone like Zell Miller switching parties. Then we also have people like Sinema who were elected as a standard moderate democrat and decided to be conservative immediately.
Are we doing a worse job at screening these people lately? Is this a more normal rate and I am not aware of the attention-seeking/grifter leadership switchers of years past? Something else?
Miller actually never changed his party affiliation. His throwing us to the wolves had nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with opportunism and the fact that he did not want to be in the US Senate. Shelby would be a better example of a party switcher for ideology reasons.
Also, Zell Miller was more of a conservative Democrat as opposed to how Democrats are increasingly nowadays in GA. It was also him and fellow Democrat (and more liberal) Max Cleland who served in the Senate at the same time representing the state.
Both Miller and Cleland voted for the 2002 Iraq War Resolution but Miller didn't apologize for his votes. Cleland did and said his vote for the resolution was a big mistake.
In MN-02 I would think there are plenty of legislators that will run.
I think John Huot of Rosemount, who represents a swingy part of the district would be a great candidate. Also Brad Tabke, who won his very swingy district by 14 votes, might get into the fray.
On the senate side, Matt Klein (who would give congress another Dr.) would make a great candidate.
Others might include former legislators who are the Dakota County Board: Joe Atkins and Laurie Halverson.
Reps are conditioned to hate him regardless of anything. And some Dems, just from what I've been picking up, find his approach to the current regime to be too passive.
What jumped out to me - who the heck actually likes Johnson, though?
Leadership is always hated. The longer someone is in leadership, the more they are hated. Johnson, Thune, and Jeffries haven't been caucus leaders for all that long.
Schumer has been in charge of senate dems for eight years.
It's also why Pelosi and McConnell were/are hated by everyone after a while too.
Imho, we should be looking only at high-quality independent polls. According to the average I have seen, Trump is not only underwater – he is 15–20% below where Biden was at this stage of his presidency. And moreover, Trump has the lowest approval rating after one month of any president in the last 70 years.
The newly elected chair of the Democratic National Committee, Ken Martin, has warned his party that the Republicans are now seen as the party of the working class and vowed to win back the trust of American workers as the Democrats seek to rebuild after their losses in the 2024 presidential election.
In his first memo in the role, seen by the Guardian, Martin said, after the election, “for the first time in modern history, Americans now see the Republicans as the party of the working class and Democrats as the party of the elites”.
The memo, titled “Democrats Will Fight Against Trump’s War on Working People”, comes as Martin is set to meet with United Steel Workers members in Pittsburgh.
“By joining together in a union, working people have secured better wages, workplace protections, healthcare and the weekend. Because here’s the thing: unions expand opportunities for all workers – not just those who are members,” Martin wrote.
Brazil’s prosecutor-general on Tuesday formally charged former President Jair Bolsonaro with attempting a coup to stay in office after his 2022 election defeat, in a plot that included a plan to poison his successor and current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and kill a Supreme Court judge.
Dayton Moore got some flack when he ran the Royals for this:

LOL we came across this yesterday when we were writing him up. Sadly, this will probably only help him in a GOP primary!

His replacement is black.
I know, but they still wouldn't be too happy by someone being quick to chuck him out, just because there is another AA in the pipeline. The replacement is no great shakes either. Man, NYC...
Is there still significant support from that community after all of the debasement? Seems like a drip drip drip of embarrassments more than a rush.

Yes.

When was the Club for Growth last relevant? CPAC now seems to be king.
The huge amount of money they can allocate makes them relevant.
Perhaps it’s perception vs. reality in terms of what I am seeing. I have mainly been hearing about CPAC in the headlines vs. Club for Growth.
That said, another reason why overturning Citizens United is essential.
Hmm... just a stray thought, but while the Club may not want Sen. Barr, they may be content if Rep. Barr decides to go for another term in the House.

What's the sudden Schumer hate about?
Reps are conditioned to hate him regardless of anything. And some Dems, just from what I've been picking up, find his approach to the current regime to be too passive.
What jumped out to me - who the heck actually likes Johnson, though?
Johnson could be a 22 approve 20 disapprove rest no opinion situation lol
Leadership is always hated. The longer someone is in leadership, the more they are hated. Johnson, Thune, and Jeffries haven't been caucus leaders for all that long.
Schumer has been in charge of senate dems for eight years.
It's also why Pelosi and McConnell were/are hated by everyone after a while too.
Indeed. My goodness was Reid absolutely abhorred.
Imho, we should be looking only at high-quality independent polls. According to the average I have seen, Trump is not only underwater – he is 15–20% below where Biden was at this stage of his presidency. And moreover, Trump has the lowest approval rating after one month of any president in the last 70 years.
What polls? Every poll besides Marquette has him up. It's baffling but I guess going after immigrants and firing federal workers is popular.
YouGov and Pew had him down.
He's at 50-55 in most polls. When was Biden at 65-70?
Never. His average never broke 60%.
He was 5-10 points lower in 2017. Biden was about 5 points higher than where he is now in 2021.
I think Lindsey's health would preclude a congressional race.
DNC Chair Ken Martin is on a roll. Now he's working to shift the Democratic Party to being the party of workers and unions.
