News from the North: In an example of Life Imitating Art, 5 of the British Columbia MLAs who left the Conservative Party this past month are banding together to form a new centre-right party which is yet to be named.

This should not be confused with the OTHER centre-right party recently formed called CentreBC, which has no current representation in the legislature. Nor should it be confused with BC United, which is the rebranded BC Liberal Party and gave up before the 2024 election to endorse the Conservatives, but still exists as a registered party. To the right of the Conservatives is OneBC, which has one MLA. For those keeping count, that is five parties competing for the right wing of the electorate. The first major test happens in a few weeks, as the leader of the Judean People's...er, Conservative Party, Kerry-Lynn Findlay, competes in a byelection to get a seat in the legislature in the riding of Abbotsford-Mission, which would be safe in a two-way fight with the NDP but less so with two or three competitors peeling off support.
