I wonder how many of the immigrant Haitians are Catholic, given that 65% of Haitians are Catholic. Might be worth asking Vance why he is baselessly attacking fellow Catholics.

Because he's racist and opportunistic.

Yes. The larger point is that 24% of Pennsylvanians are Catholic, as are 18% of Michiganders and 21% of Floridians. Let make this an electoral millstone around their neck.

Wow, great job. Now if we can just get the national media to report facts instead of "vibes" or what some rando posted on Facebook...

Great analysis, thanks!

I think I'm missing something--the county estimate of 12,000–15,000 total immigrants is an order of magnitude larger than the ACS estimate. Is that plausible?

We try to explain this in the piece. Jarman's conclusion is that the county is probably a bit too high and the census definitely too low.

That's also for the whole county.

This is tremendously important reporting. The major national news outlets are not doing this work anymore (shame on them). The most powerful antidote to racist lies is fact and truth. Thank you for bringing the light.

The problem with this:

"But local authorities in Springfield say the Haitians who flocked to the city in recent months aren't yet reflected in the census data, and that the percentage of migrants now accounts for around 20% of its total population."

In addition, I have yet to see the mainstream media report the fact that while Springfield has a population of 58,662, the actual metropolitan area tops out at 136,001. Despite the picture drawn by the MSM, we’re not actually talking about some rural hamlet in the middle of nowhere. The city is 25 miles (a half-hour drive) from Dayton with a population of 814,049.
